Code of Ethics

Writing was invented as a means of communication across a wide body, both for the purpose of sharing information with one another as well as bringing people together around shared interests in a given topic. Writers have been instrumental in shaping the world as we know it ever since. Even in the age of new technologies, where the written word is seemingly brushed aside in favor of other multimedia options, the act of a well written article is still as evocative, moving, enlightening, and powerful as ever. As members of this craft, be it on a hobbyist or professional level, we understand how impactful words can be, whether its intent is to inform or persuade. We also know that such craftwork takes time, energy, and patience.

Members of the Tabletop Writers Guild (TWG) have joined with the express intent to learn, network, grow, and have fun with fellow game writers, and the guild is committed to making it the best possible environment for everyone involved. To ensure the safety, comfort, and integrity of its members, we have a few rules that its members are expected to adhere to.

  1. The TWG is inclusive to anyone who has made it their passion or profession to writing about tabletop games and supports people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to, members of any race, age, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, socioeconomic status, or disability.
  2. TWG members are expected to be respectful to one another both internally and in the public sphere. People are going to disagree, especially on matters of opinion, but there is no excuse for disrespectful behavior.
  3. The TWG has a zero tolerance policy of its members for harassment, sexually offensive actions or behavior, and violent behavior or threats thereof. This includes, but is not limited to, stalking, bullying, unwanted attention, or personal attacks on others along any categories enumerated or implied in Rule 1.
  4. TWG members promise that any written work published in their name, either individually or collaboratively, is their own creation and is free of any plagiarism and that any other accompanying words, pictures, or other materials included within it are properly credited.
  5. All internal TWG conversations, especially those involving industry information, are presumed to be confidential unless otherwise agreed upon by the members involved.
  6. Violation of these rules, either in person or online, could be grounds for removal by the Board. If you have reason to believe that a TWG member violated any of these policies, please contact a member of the TWG board.
